Escape to Harbor Country for a Cozy Knitting Retreat at Garden Grove Inn
A Creative Weekend Getaway in Southwest Michigan | January 29-31, 2027
Looking for the perfect creative retreat in Michigan? This winter, trade screen time for creativity in community and join us at Garden Grove Inn in Union Pier, Michigan for a relaxing and inspiring Knitting Retreat Weekend.
From January 29-31, immerse yourself in a cozy weekend of knitting, community, and creativity in beautiful Harbor Country, where slowing down and making something with your hands is the ultimate getaway.
As more travelers seek meaningful analog experiences—from crafting and journaling to cooking and fiber arts—our knitting retreat offers the perfect opportunity to unplug, connect, and create in a peaceful bed and breakfast setting.
Whether you're an experienced knitter or picking up needles for the very first time, all skill levels are welcomed.
What to Expect at Our Michigan Knitting Retreat
Spend the weekend surrounded by fellow makers, cozy accommodations, delicous food, and personalized instruction from our in-person knitting instructor, Anna S.
Our featured retreat project will be geared toward the experience of the group, likely to include a beginner-friendly project such as a knitted pouch and a more advanced project such as a cowl or socks.
Choose your own pace:
- Knit alongside the group in our inviting common spaces
- Relax in your private guest room with your project or in the jacuzzi tub
- Explore Harbor Country’s charming shops, beaches, and wineries between stitches
This is your weekend to slow down and enjoy the simple joy of making.
Special Fiber Mill Tour Included
One of the highlights of the weekend is a Saturday afternoon excursion to Sandpiper and Hoof-to-Hanger Fiber Mill in nearby Bridgman.
This unique behind-the-scenes experience gives you the chance to:
- Tour the working fiber mill
- Learn how yarn is processed from start to finish
- Shop beautiful locally sourced fiber products at a discount
- Connect more deeply with the craftsmanship behind your materials
It’s the perfect complement to a weekend celebrating handmade creativity.

More About Our Teacher, Anna...
Anna shown with her Detroit Lions Scarf, just before finishing it, just in time for the game to start! She donated her leftover yarn to a very excited waitress!
Anna taught herself to knit more than 20 years ago and calls it her "therapy". She loves lace knitting, the more complicated the better, but also regularly churns out warm, chunky hats or scarves for Midwest winters. She's got 4 WIPs (Works In Progress) currently hanging out on the needles, and her most recently completed works include a Detroit Lions Scarf to commemorate their winning season, and a beautiful sweater to keep her warm through a Michigan winter! She lives in Detroit with her husband, 6 year old son, and basement full of yarn.
